Broadway Star

HOW TO PLAY!

OBJECT
The object of the game is to acquire the most fans.

EQUIPMENT
Your board game should consist of six (6) game pieces, two (2) dice, and a board.  There are two-hundred and fifty (250) Fan cards, fifty (50) Audition cards, forty (40) Make or Break Cards, six (6) Agent cards, six (6) Publicist cards, six (6) Equity cards, twelve (12) Tony Awards® cards, and play money.

GAME PREPARATION
Put the board on a table and put the Fan cards, Audition cards, and Make or Break cards face down where everyone can reach them.  Each player chooses a game piece to represent them while traveling around the board.  Each player is given $1000 divided as follows:

1 - $500s               4 - $100s               1 - $50s                  5 - $10s

BANKER
Designate one player as the BANKER to distribute show salaries, Equity cards, Agent cards, Publicist cards, and Tony Awards® cards throughout the game.  The Banker must keep their personal funds and cards separate from those of the Bank.

GAME PLAY
If any player's first name is "Tony," that player automatically goes first.  If there is no "Tony," each player throws one of the dice.  The player with the highest roll starts the game.  Place your game piece on "START" and throw the dice, advancing the combined number of spaces indicated by the 2 dice and following the instructions on your landing space.  After you have completed your play the turn passes to the left.  Game pieces remain on the spaces occupied, and proceed from space-to-space on each turn.  Two (or more) game pieces may occupy the same space at the same time.

Depending on the space your game piece reaches you may Audition, Make it or Break it, Pay Your Dues, renew your contract, gain or lose Fan cards, pay and receive money, etc.

FAN CARDS
Throughout the game, you will be awarded Fan cards, and have them taken away. Fan cards are each worth 25, 50, or 100 fans.

Each time you gain a Fan card, place it face down in your individual Fan card pile so no one can see how many fans you have.  If you lose a Fan card, pick one at random from your pile and return it to the bottom of the Fan card deck.

AUDITION/EQUITY/AGENT/PUBLICIST CARDS

If you land on an AUDITION space, draw a card from the AUDITION card deck.

If the card says "YOU GOT CAST," congratulations!  Collect your salary and Fan card.   Build your resume throughout the game by keeping all the AUDITION cards for shows you have been cast in.

*BONUS OPPORTUNITY: If you can sing 2 lines from the show you got cast in, roll again.

If the card says "YOU GOT CUT," collect no salary. Collect no fan card.  Return the AUDITION card to the bottom of the

AUDITION card deck.

Your most recent AUDITION determines whether or not you are currently cast in a show.

After your first successful AUDITION, you must collect your EQUITY card.  You are now required to pay $100 each time you land on or pass PAY YOUR DUES.

After your second successful AUDITION you may choose to hire yourAGENT for a one-time fee of $250.  AGENTS entitle you to an extra $100for each future show salary.  With an AGENT you are now required to pay an additional $50 each time you land on or pass PAY YOUR DUES.  You must also still pay your EQUITY dues.

*You may choose to NOT hire your AGENT on your second successful AUDITION, in which case you can hire your AGENT on any later "You Got Cast!" AUDITION.

After your third successful AUDITION you may choose to hire your PUBLICIST for a one-time fee of $500.  PUBLICISTS entitle you to one additional fan card for each future salary.  With a PUBLICIST you are now required to pay an additional $100 each time you land on or pass PAY YOUR DUES.  You must also still pay your EQUITY and AGENT dues.

*You may choose to NOT hire your PUBLICIST on your third successful AUDITION, in which case you can hire your PUBLICIST on any later "You Got Cast!" AUDITION.  You cannot hire a PUBLICIST unless you have an AGENT.

*With a PUBLICIST, you can now take the TONY AWARDS® TRACKS.

TONY AWARDS® TRACK

You are only permitted to take a purple TONY AWARDS® TRACK if you have a PUBLICIST and are currently cast in a show.  If you win a Tony Award®, receive a Tony Award® card.

TONY AWARD® CARDS

If you have won a Tony Award®, you are now entitled to an extra $200 and one additional Fan cardfor each future salary.

MAKE OR BREAK CARDS

Each time you land on a MAKE OR BREAK space, draw a card from the MAKE OR BREAK deck.  Each card has a unique performance challenge opportunity for you, and if you're up for the challenge, you can gain lots of fans!  Your fellow players determinewhether you MAKE IT or BREAK IT and majority wins.  If there's a tie, perform your challenge again to try and win them over on the same MAKE OR BREAK card.  If you can't win them over, you BREAK IT.

If you MAKE IT, collect your extra fans and roll again.  Return the card to the bottom of the deck.

If you BREAK IT, collect no fans and do not roll again – that's showbiz!  Return the card to the bottom of the deck.

CONTRACT RENEWAL SPACES

If you land on CONTRACT RENEWAL, collect the salary and fans for your current show again, plus any additional BONUSES you get from your AGENT, PUBLICIST or TONY AWARDS® cards.  If you are not currently cast, collect no salary, fans, or bonuses.

RUNNING OUT OF MONEY

If you run out of money, you can sell back your FAN CARDS for their numeric value (e.g. a "25 fans" card is worth $25).  You must confirm that you are selling back FAN CARDS, and how many, before you flip them over and sell to the banker.

REACHING THE BROADWAY HALL OF FAME

The game is over when all players have reached the BROADWAY HALL OF FAME.  You must roll the exact number of spaces in order to land on the BROADWAY HALL OF FAME.  (If a player is within 6 spaces of the "Broadway Hall of Fame," player rolls only one die).

Once you land on the BROADWAY HALL OF FAME, you must draw a final AUDITION.

If the card says "YOU GOT CAST," you must sing 2 lines as the character on the card and it must be 2 lines the character actually sings in the show.  If you are unable to do so, return the card to the deck and stay on the BROADWAY HALL OF FAME.  On your next turn, draw another AUDITION card.

If the card says "YOU GOT CUT," put the card back at the bottom of the deck and wait until your next turn to draw another AUDITION card.

"LIFETIME ACHIEVEMENT" BONUS

FIRST PLACE: The first player to reach the end and successfully audition receives their final salary plus an additional 1000 fans.

SECOND PLACE: The second player to reach the end and successfully audition receives an additional 500 fans.

THIRD PLACE: The third player to reach the end and successfully audition receives an additional 250 fans.

WINNING THE GAME

Once all players have made it to the BROADWAY HALL OF FAME, turn over your Fan cards and add them up.  If you're one of the 3 recipients of the "Lifetime Achievement" Bonus, add your bonus to your Fan card total.

Lastly, count your cash and add that total to your Fan total (1 dollar=1 fan).
